The number of people considered obese by the medical community in the United States has increased dramatically. In fact, many call it the obesity epidemic. To combat this we see all sorts of pharmaceutical companies selling “quick fix” pills, powders and lotions that actually do nothing to help people lose fat and keep it off.
Of course the same can be said for the diet industry. Now there are so many different diets going around that you can choose one every month and in a year there will still be many more to choose from.
What is really needed is some sensible proven weight loss tips that people can apply regardless of their current physical condition. That said, dive right in.
1 Drink more water. Often Americans are borderline dehydrated and so their bodies are acting on a water starvation reflex and not flushing out toxins and waste.
2 Eat more often. I bet you thought I was going to tell you to eat less. While it’s true that you need to eat fewer calories than you expend to lose weight…you need to eat more often to keep the metabolic furnace stocked up and burning properly. Get it out of starvation mode. So start your day with breakfast. Even with an instant breakfast drink and a piece of fruit we head out the door in the morning.
3 Move further. Depending on your physical condition, you may need to move more. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park away from the office or store, go for a walk around the block, go dancing, play with your kids. Make it fun. Running isn’t the only way to burn more calories.
4 Finally, determine your “why”. Decide why you want to lose fat. Make your cause big enough to keep you motivated through the ever-present slumps.
Personally my reason was to be able to live to see my great grand kids graduate college. My younger children are now 4 and 6. Besides, I wanted to go outside and play with them without having to breathe all the time.
